Part 2: Busch Gardens Williamsburg - The Themes

As many of you know, and as I mentioned in Part 1, Busch Gardens Williamsburg is themed to the countries of Europe (Busch Gardens Tampa is themed to Africa, for reference). In total, there are nine total country sections with the following countries represented: England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Canada (New France - Quebec) , Germany (2), and Italy (2). There is also the Sesame Street Forest of Fun and the Land of the Dragons for kids.

There definitely is more theming in Williamsburg than Tampa, especially in terms of unique architecture. Each country has a different look with the classical architecture styles from these countries. For example, in Italy, there are plenty of Roman columns and gardens. Overall, the areas are well themed with nice scenery. I would say it is step below the theming of Disney and Universal. The only area that seemed out of place to me (besides Sesame Street of course) is the New France area. It made me feel like I was in Frontierland, not Quebec. It just seemed like an area I had seen before at other parks.

Busch Gardens Williamsburg is essentially a big circle, with one path through the middle of the park connecting Scotland and Germany that features a walk over the 'Rhine' River. The park did not feel to be as big to me as Tampa when walking from one end of the park to the other. The paths are generally narrower than in Tampa, making it a bit difficult to get around when the crowds are heavy. The park is quite hilly in some parts, especially around the river. Overall, it is simpler to get around the park in Williamsburg; it takes a good bit of familiarity to know where to go without getting lost or turned around in Tampa.

Next time I will discuss the non roller coaster rides at the park.
