Once again, the Florida State Fair has proven to be a success. With over 150 free things to do with the low $10 admission price, it sure is a deal. The fair is open from today till February 15th. If you can’t go today, go tomorrow or the next day. Just get there.
The fair is separated into 7 main areas.
The Expo Hall
The Entertainment Area
The Livestock Area
The Bob Thomas Equestrian Center
The Midway Area
The New Fair Squares Tent.
And
The Cracker Country Area
For the Cracker County area, you can go back in time and experience and learn about Florida’s history and how we would be living if it were the early 1900’s. My favorite things about this area is that you can learn how things were done back then and then you can participate in doing that tack or making something to take home. You can make your own rope, candles and even make your own postcard using an old printing press. After making your postcard you can take a stroll through the church, general store, school house or even the train station. Another thing I would recommend from this area is the snack food. They make and sell their own beef jerky and I would have to say it’s the best I have ever had. And even though you can find kettle corn around the park, the kettle corn here is the best.
In the Sweetbay Entertainment Hall they have produced another great show called “Celebrate!”. I’m not going to say much about it so I don’t spoil the show to anyone. But it was an awesome show.
When I went on opening day, there was quite a stir in the Livestock Barn. There was an explosion of babies that day. I had witnessed a goat giving birth to two little babies and some baby chicks hatching out of their eggs. So when you go to the fair, be sure to stop by and say hello to these new Floridians.
This is my first written article out of a three part feature of the 2010 Florida State Fair. Part two will be all about rides coming out on Monday or the latest Tuesday. Then part three will be all about the food. That will ether be part of part two or in its own segment by Tuesday.
Until then, the fair is open everyday till February 15th. The gates open daily at 9am. Closing times vary by day depending on weather and other influencing factors. The Midway opens Monday through Friday at 11 am and Saturday, Sunday and Student days at 10 am. It also has variable closing times.
